3/6/2020 0 Comments How to Build a Limitless Life"Life fucking sucks." Seriously, don't lie. You have 100% said that (in your mind, at the very least) at some point in your lifetime. That is just one of many of our societal slogans, right? "Life sucks." "Life is hard." "Life is unfair." I've got a new one for you: Life is Limitless. Here's the ONE SENTENCE SUMMARY: Our lives are a series of beliefs - and we get to choose them. We take so much as fact (see above slogans on life). When we take a step back to acknowledge just how little is fact and just how much is belief (everything, basically), we find ourselves holding a whole new sense of empowerment: That means we get to choose. That means we're Limitless. My "life sucks" mentality followed me into my mid-20s. From experiencing a trauma at age 7, to the bullies of middle school, to mental health struggles and sexual trauma in my teens, I hated everything, and I wanted out. (Pictured: A rock bottom night on tour in Seattle, summer of 2019) I also loved people, sang passionately, and had big dreams. Hating life didn't keep me from my goals; they in fact became conditional. "If I reach this goal, I'll be good enough," I told myself. I tied my self-worth and my survival into achievement. I'd learned the art of goal-setting, and not the art of self-love. Then, I hit rock bottom. I held a new low just before my 25th birthday, finding myself hospitalized for the first time in seven years. It wasn't until I was 25 that I thought, "There has to be more than this." I'd just hit my rock bottom and was coming out of a hospitalization that stopped me in my tracks. Literally. I was confined to a room. It turned out to be the catalyst I needed: The thought of there being more led me to open myself to daydream. "If I could have, do, be anything," I thought, "What would that look like?" I wrote out every facet of my life, every dream I had, every piece of myself I wanted to know. I took the goal-setting tactics I'd held in times of disconnect and combined them with the connective internal work, and I found: Our lives are a series of beliefs - and we get to choose them. Yup, exactly how I started it. Reinforcing juicy game-changers like this is a nourishing thing. I chose my beliefs. I choose them everyday. I'm achieving my dreams, building my future, living in alignment, and loving myself. You DO get to have it all. Choose your Limitless. I would LOVE to hear what your Limitless looks like, and would absolutely love to connect with you!
